Jacob & Co. presents the new Astronomia Maestro gravitational three-axis tourbillon minute repeater.

Only Jacob & Co. has the audacity to display one of watchmaking's most intricate complications in a transparent case, including an astronaut floating in it. The Astronomia collection is the result of four years of work, combining the fantasy of Jacob Arabo with the talent of master watchmaker Luca Soprano, always making clear, both figuratively and literally, our place in the universe and its inexorable relationship to time. After pioneering the first vertically constructed watch movement, which continuously revolves around its own central axis, with attached branches, it can carry objects as diverse as astronauts, Jacob® cut diamonds, the earth, and even Hour and minute dial. For the past few years, the people behind Astronomia have been perfecting their latest horological wonder. Astronomia Maestro combines a minute repeater mechanism with a carillon - the most complex type available. What’s more, its patented sesame box with a ratchet and pawl system and three gongs wound in a spiral shape on the movement’s main board – a first in watchmaking.

The result is an entirely new movement that, for the first time, centers the hours and minutes display, rather than on a rotating arm. The arm made available for this reason has been given a moon phase display, which rotates on its own axis in 31 days and uses the rotation of a half black, half black Jacob® cut diamond to display the date on the scale and Moon phase white with 288 facets.

While the visual aspects are breathtaking, minute repeater collectors will naturally be interested in the acoustics and aesthetics of this piece. In this regard, Astronomia Maestro has a lot to offer. First, most of its case is sapphire crystal, and it's fairly bulky, which helps amplify the sound. "The sizeable number has allowed us to conduct extensive research over the past two years to go beyond the usual minute repeater principle," explains Luca Soprana. Three clearly visible hammers strike the hours, quarters and minutes in a graceful cathedral gong sound from bass to treble.

The audible symphony is accompanied by a visual ballet, in which the movement's four arms complete a full rotation of the dial every ten minutes. On the opposite arms, the Earth and the miniature astronaut (who barely weighs 0.2 grams!) revolve around its axis every 30 seconds, while the tourbillon performs a full rotation every two and a half minutes, around the balance wheel axis and itself The axis rotates the axis every 60 seconds. All of this takes place in the context of the planets in our solar system.
